Doornroosje: de tijd als vriend (international title: Sleeping Beauty: Time as a Friend) was produced by Van Paridon Films with the support of Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland, the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands, and the Province of South Holland.

The film premiered on Rijnmond Doc on August 2, 2025, and was broadcast again by Omroep West on October 18, 2025. It is also available on the YouTube channel of Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland.

Official Synopsis

Doornroosje: de tijd als vriend follows a groundbreaking experiment centered on the Regional Museum Jan Anderson in Vlaardingen, South Holland. To preserve the unique and extensive collection of collector Jan Anderson for future generations, leading heritage institutions – including Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland, the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands, and the Reinwardt Academy – join forces to put his collection into a decades-long sleep based on an innovative theory by cultural historian Gerard Rooijakkers. Throughout the process, the project team encounters unexpected challenges that raise fundamental questions about the future and meaning of heritage.
